About AAIB

AAIB Award

As a leading financial institution, AAIB was pleased to be the first bank to initiate the AAIB Award for the first time in Egypt between September 2003 and May 2004.

What is AAIB Award?

The Arab African International Bank Award is an annual program that involves teams of university undergraduates to develop a new banking product / service not existing in the Egyptian market, or improve an already existing banking product or service. AAIB believes that young minds are capable of reaching new heights- Young Minds generate Great Ideas -if they dare to think outside the box and take the initiative to create, innovate and ultimately come up with great ideas.

Objective:

The objective of the competition is to enhance academic merit and excellence in the field of banking and finance, whereby students have the chance to translate their academic knowledge into real applicable banking products and/or services, thus contributing to the business community and at the same time achieve personal fulfillment.

The first round that took place at the American University in Cairo (AUC) represents a pilot project for a nation-wide contest to take place in the coming years between different universities in Egypt.

Phases

The competition runs through 4 main phases:

  • Phase One : Registration

Registration begins in the fall semester and lasts for three weeks, whereby teams visit Award booth in campus to inquire about the competition and apply for the Award. Thorough interviews are conducted to screen out applicants based on preset criteria. Applicants who pass the interview are invited to the first event: The Opening Ceremony.

Event # 1 - Opening Ceremony: to get introduced to the bank and the competition phases into details. The opening is crucial for all teams to get introduced to meet past winners and listen to their experience and success stories. The ceremony also marks end of phase one and beginning of phase two of the real competition where teams start working on their outlines.

  • Phase Two : Outlines Submission

One month after the Opening Ceremony, teams are expected to submit their first assignment: a brief outline about their projects. The Outline Phase is considered a second screening phase after the interviews, whereby the submitted outlines are evaluated by the Advisory Board. Only creative ideas get to pass this phase to move to Phase Three : Training Sessions.

  • Phase Three: Training Sessions

The 2nd annual AAIB Award marked the beginning of this phase, whereby we realized the importance of enhancing the students banking knowledge and from here aroused the concept of introducing training sessions to give a general idea to the participants about the banking sector in general. Moreover as the competition requires from teams to have good report writing and presentation skills, hence were the personal skills development sessions introduced. AAIB Award involves 7 training sessions as follows:

    • 3 banking sessions Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Investment & Treasury.
    • 2 personal development skills sessions: Report Writing, Presentation Skills.
    • 2 report requirements sessions: Marketing Plan, Feasibility Study.

  • Phase Four : Final Projects Presentations

Finalists present their projects at the bank to the Award's Advisory Committee which consists of experts in the field as well as business community representatives. Based on the final project report and the presentations, teams get evaluated to determine who the three winners of the year are.
